A water outage is affecting multiple districts in Lima today, July 20. Authorities have released a list of affected areas and schedules. The outage impacts residents and businesses, with further updates expected.
Today, July 20, Lima is experiencing a widespread water outage affecting several districts, according to official statements from the local water authority. The disruption impacts thousands of residents and businesses, prompting advisories to plan accordingly. The outage’s duration and specific affected areas have been confirmed and publicly shared.
The Servicio de Agua Potable de Lima (SEDAPAL) announced that the water service will be temporarily interrupted in multiple districts, including Miraflores, San Isidro, La Molina, and parts of Surco, starting from early morning hours. The outage is scheduled to last until late evening, with exact times varying by district, according to SEDAPAL’s official schedule.
Authorities cited maintenance work and infrastructure upgrades as the reasons for the interruption. The affected areas have been listed on SEDAPAL’s official website and communicated via local media outlets. Residents are advised to store sufficient water supplies and follow safety recommendations during the outage.
There are no reports of additional complications or emergency situations linked to the outage at this time, and SEDAPAL has assured the public that efforts are being made to restore service as quickly as possible. The agency has also set up a helpline for inquiries and assistance.
Impacts on Daily Life and Local Economy
This water outage affects thousands of residents and numerous businesses across Lima, disrupting daily routines, sanitation, and commercial activities. Reliable water supply is critical for health, hygiene, and economic productivity, making this disruption significant for the city’s functioning. The situation underscores the importance of infrastructure maintenance and contingency planning in urban water management.

Recent Infrastructure Maintenance and Scheduled Upgrades
The current outage follows scheduled maintenance work announced by SEDAPAL earlier this month, aimed at upgrading aging pipelines and improving water distribution. These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to reduce long-term disruptions and improve service quality. Similar outages have occurred in the past during maintenance periods, but authorities emphasize that such measures are necessary for sustainable water management in Lima.
Local officials have previously warned residents about potential temporary disruptions during these scheduled works, and this outage aligns with those forecasts. No unplanned or emergency repairs have been reported so far, and authorities maintain that the situation is under control.
“We are conducting essential maintenance to improve water infrastructure. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate residents’ patience.”
