Swizz Beatz dishes on his childhood memories, his greatest accomplishments and his marriage to Alicia Keys. The rapper who says he prizes honesty above else also has some advice for up and coming producers in the latest issue of Uptown Magazine which features the very sexy Lenny Kravitz on the cover.
On his strongest childhood memory: The Bronx. Keith Haring’s “Crack Is wack” graffiti on handball courts. I remember my grandparents calling me through the window telling me it’s time to come inside.
On his advice to young producers: Always stay original. Always push yourself. Where a lot of people go wrong they listen to too many people when it comes to their life. If I listened to everybody, I wouldn’t be Swizz Beatz, I would still be a DJ.
On his greatest accomplishment: Getting out of the ‘hood. Straight up. To be able to get out of the mix and wake up in the Mediterranean somewhere is a super blessing.
On where he draws inspiration: Travelling. I see how people live and dress. I see the music that different cultures make.
On what surprised him most about marriage: If it’s the right partner, it’s the best thing in the world.
