Patti LaBelle Countersues Cadet Over Houston Airport Beating

by on June 29, 2011

Patti LaBelle is fighting back and has claimed self-defense in her lawsuit against the former West Point cadet who accused her of ordering her bodyguards to beat him up at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

In her suit the singer claims a drunk Richard King instigated the fight by cursing her, using racially and sexually offensive language before trying to force his way into her car.

When Patti’s son and driver Zuri Edwards told him not to address his mother in that manner, the cadet punched Zuri in the face!

King was suspended from the United States Military Academy as a result of the March 11th altercation.

i do not believe Patti’s countersuit, it seems way easier to place shit on someone being Drunk, then to admit your shit stinks. It really sucks for that cadet though, becuz he kinda is being pegged just because he’s young, military, and away from school on spring break. the obvious thing is to say he was drunk.

you make a good point…and to make matters worse the surveillance tape doesn’t have audio…I think this will be settled out of court…although I have to wonder why he got suspended from the military after the incident…maybe they know something we don’t

you guys are just quick to assume the worst in Patti, she is a Christian women who has never had any trouble in the public eye. For this guy to be in the military he should have known better. Not only does he protect our country but he has a civil duty to be appropriate in public, drinking escapades because you are in the military isnt okay. Finally for him to get suspended shows they have sufficient evidence his behavior was not they way the military want to be represented. I disagree with both comments and think some people need to look at facts, she is protecting her reputation and character. Every non black person loves to use the N word to a black person,so he got what he deserves a BEAT DOWN!! He will think twice next time before using that word.

thanks for your comment however if you read my first comment you will see that I said I had to wonder why the military suspended him if he was blameless. I try to keep things fair and balanced here and like to look at both sides. As much as I love entertainment and try to show the best of black Hollywood I am not naive to think that just because someone has what we deem a spotless reputation doesn’t mean they can’t do or haven’t done something wrong. Celebs are human beings and have flaws just like the rest of us. Obviously Patti feels she has a case hence the counter-suit. But the fact is that the surveillance tape does not have audio so basically it is Patti and her team’s word against the cadet’s. And no I’m sorry I do not agree that if someone uses the N word you give them a beat down because if you beat that person to death guess what? you’ll be facing a murder charge and life/death row over some idiot.
