Jourdan Dunn has added her voice to the growing number of models and industry insiders asking for change in the way models of color are treated in the fashion industry.
In an interview with Net-A-Porter, Jourdan shared her personal experiences with racism in fashion, recalling plenty of times where she was on her way to a casting and was then told to turn back because the client “didn’t want any more black girls”.
The model, who has a cooking show on Jay-Z’s Life and Times Youtube channel, also revealed an incident where a makeup artist announced that she would not work on Jourdan simply because she herself was white and Jourdan was black!
Recently, Chanel Iman told a similar tale of being rejected because designers had met there ‘black quota’ so to speak. “When someone tells you, “We don’t want you because we already have one of your kind,” it’s really sad,” the model said.
