Stars came out last night to pay tribute to Whitney Houston at The We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston special which was filmed last night at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California.
A tearful Halle Berry kicked off the event by praising the late singer as Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina watched.
“She inspired a generation of little girls and women to believe in their own dream and to know what they had within themselves the greatest gift of all,” Halle said. “I was one of those girls who then became a woman who never, ever, ever, stopped loving Whitney Houston.”
Also in attendance were Clive Davis, BK’s fiance Nick Gordon and Whitney’s sister-in-law Pat Houston. Mom Cissy and her brother Gary did not attend.
Performers included Jennifer who took it back to the 80s rocking Whitney’s big hair and blazer as she performed a medley of Whitney’s hits like ‘I’m Every Woman’, ‘How Will I Know’ and ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. Usher performed ‘I Believe In You And Me’ and Whitney’s close friend Cece Winans and Yolanda Adams performed a moving rendition of ‘Count On Me’ which brought the room to tears.
As well as tribute performances, presenters shared their memories of the late super-star with Britney Spears stating that her own version of Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ is what helped her gain her record deal and started her career.
The one-hour tribute will air on CBS on November 16.
