Jill Scott is headed back to the small screen. The singer who was last seen on The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and most recently in the remake of Steel Magnolias is set to co-star opposite Derek Luke and Jason Lee in Second Sight, a CBS drama pilot from Michael Cuesta and Carol Mendelsohn.
Second Sight is based on the British gothic psychological thriller series and follows Tanner (Lee), the lead detective with the New Orleans Police Department who is hiding the fact that he has an ocular disorder that causes him to have horrifying hallucinations. Jill Scott will play Dr. Callier, the eye specialist who treats Tanner’s ocular disease while Derek Luke will play detective Paul Giroux who is new to the team.
Maybeline model and Naomi Campbell wanabe (at least in the temper department) Jessica White has landed a reality show on the Style Network.
Cameras will follow the former Victoria’s Secret model as she works on her modeling and singing careers – yes apparently Jessica is branching off into music and what better way to promote that than a reality show.
And Vanessa Simmons has snagged the lead role – her first – in Dominga Martin’s upcoming romantic comedy “My First Loves”.
“I fell in Love with the very candid story of one girls quest in life to find true love, a story I can relate to quite well,” Simmons said of the role while Martin added, “I am excited to work with Vanessa Simmons in her first leading role. I believe she is this generation’s Diahann Caroll or Dorothy Dandridge. She has range; she’s classy, FRESH and has a quiet strength. She is the image of the character I created in my head. I was searching for someone fresh faced and untainted and Vanessa Simmons is everything I was looking for. She’s got next! I can’t wait to see her blossom and bring this role to life.”
“My First Loves” will begin production this summer in Atlanta, GA and NYC.
Here’s hoping she can live up to those Diahann Caroll or Dorothy Dandridge comparisons!
